Extramorphs

Quick gameplay tips

  • A quick reminder on what 'play off the top of your deck' means. You reveal cards from your deck until you reveal the first card that can be played, and then you play it. Then you put all the other revealed cards on the bottom of your deck. It's as easy as that.
  • A lot of the Extramorph's minions gain bonuses if you play them off the top of your deck, so you don't actually want to draw them. Alien Life Form is far more powerful when played like this, so if you do end up drawing it then it's a prime candidate to be shuffled back into your deck - or even better, placed on the top when you know you've got a way of immediately getting it out again.
  • Egg Field is your main way of getting Head Grabbers and your other main top-of-deck engines onto the board, so try and get them out but be wary of them leaving play too early - consider placing them on a high breakpoint base no other players are competing on. Hive Queen is very useful both for fetching an Egg Field and making them more useful - the -1 power it brings pushes opponent's minions down into being affected by your other cards.

Gameplay

NOT ALIENS

The Extramorphs are all about being the uninvited guests at the base, who ruin the party with the whole facehugging and chestbursting routine they've got going on. Their gameplan is to call forth their stronger minions from within their deck, as a surprise to everyone - including themselves! To make the most use out of the 'top of deck' mechanic, they've got some utility cards to make the stars align in their favour. Five by Five is an action that draws 5 cards, then places 5 cards on the top of the deck - in any order. This is great utility, as it's a lot of card draw and also a way to put the topdeck-lovin' minions back into the deck. Chestbreaker is their 2-power minion, whose Talent lets it wriggle to the bottom of their deck and play a minion of power 3 or 4 of the top of their deck. This is great, as it going to the bottom keeps it out of the way for any other minions you'd rather play instead. Keep in mind this Talent can only be used if Chestbreaker was already in play at the start of the turn, so there's a turn or two for your opponent to squish that little bug. It might seem like the Extramorphs are a burst power faction, but they're actually fairly consistent. Their topdeck plays grant power counters rather than temporary power, letting them stick around and stay strong. Their main weakness is the randomness of their plays, they need a bit of pre-planning before they can be fully effective.
