Explorers

Quick gameplay tips

  • Idaho Smith is exceptionally good at stealing a base with no competition to grab some easy VP. Use the Explorers' other cards that allow them to manipulate the base deck and plan out a big turn.
  • Remember that Very Large Boulder can move with other players minions as well! You can use this to move a minion and then kill it, or follow around when an opponent moves to make their life difficult.
  • As the Explorers, your main strength is getting to other bases before anyone else even has a chance to! Use cards like Crypt Looter and Lost City to establish your presence as quickly as possible, and make it harder for other players to get a foothold.

Gameplay

Y'know that Idaho Smith guy reminds me of someone...

The Explorers do exactly what it sounds like they do. They explore. Not content to settle down on a single base, they dash around finding ancient treasures and punching nazis. Their MO is manipulating the battlefield to their advantage, by dredging the base deck to make sure they have the upper hand. Their main workhorse for this is Glory Hound, their 2 power minion that allows them to look at the top 2 cards of the base deck and put them on the top or bottom of the deck. Cards like this allow them to lay out a plan for the coming turns, and save their important plays for a base that really matters. They also gain a substantial benefit from jumping between bases, being able to gain power and other utility like card draw. Not quite as much as some of the more hyper-mobile factions, but it's a good boost nonetheless. They lack a lot of tools to deal with opponents however, but they do have 'Dr Livingstone, I presume?' which allows them to shuffle a minion into its owner's deck - if it's the only minion on that base. This is a strong effect, but quite awkward to pull off - although they can do some movement of opponent's minions to make it easier. Very Large Boulder addresses some of this lack of agency, after a few turns on the board it becomes quite a strong destroying machine, and the Explorers can likely keep it rolling for several turns in a row if they need.
