Luchadors

Quick gameplay tips

  • You have 3 set-up actions in your deck, and your entire playstyle revolves around them. Luckily, El Sagrado and Yellow Demon (2-power minion) allow you to retrieve used set-ups from your discard pile. El Sagrado also works as your main combo enabler, allowing you to play a set-up as an extra action.
  • It's in your best interest to keep set-upped minions alive, as they give you benefits and allow some of your strongest plays. Don't let other players destroy these minions, so consider saving them for a powerful minion that isn't likely to be taken out anytime soon.
  • Remember that 'Pin' doesn't reduce a minion's power, but does prevent it from contributing to their power total on a base. So for minion purposes it exists, but for base-scoring purposes it does not.

The real ones remember when El Sagrado was called Senor Muchoslam

The Luchadors have quite a unique playstyle in Smash Up, they revolve around playing 'set-up' actions on enemy minions. These provide them with powerful benefits like card draw and power, and the ability to play follow-up cards to capitalise on these set-ups. La Torcha gains +2 power when an enemy minion has one of their actions played on it, and 'Pin' is an additional action that allows them to not only cancel a minion's abilities but also remove its power from its controller's total! This makes the Luchadors excellent at playing against factions that like to play tall rather than wide, as they can shut down their strongest minions and give themselves a power boost while they're at it. They also come with some additional support actions and minions, Capa Roja is a 4-power minion with the blessed ability to destroy a minion of printed power 3 or less before a base scores - owned by each other player. 'Tag Team' is an action that allows an extra minion play at a base where they have a minion, and 'Reversal' allows them to take control of a minion with a set-up action on it before a base scores. They're also quite good at reclaiming actions from the discard pile, paricularly set-ups but this can be extended to generic actions. Their main weakness is their reliance on an enemy presence to really do anything, skilled players will recognise what they're doing and just ignore that base or may even have ways to destroy/move set-up actions.
