Giant Ants

Quick gameplay tips

  • Beware of playing against factions that have the ability to destroy minions of a certain printed power (Action Heroes and Luchadors come to mind), as they will probably ruin your day and make you cry. The sad thing is you can't really do anything about it.
  • Death on Six Legs is a Titan that takes longer than average to get out, but with clever positioning can become extremely powerful. Its Talent to play an extra action is really strong and synergises well with every other faction, and recycling +1 power counters from ANY discarded minions can add up to a terrifying total.
  • The main strength of the Giant Ants is in being able to transfer power across your minions, so always keep in mind where your power is most needed. Use cards like 'A Kind of Magic' to redistribute power counters where they're needed most, this is particularly strong when giving power counters back to minions that remove them for powerful abilities.

The Giant Ants do not believe in individual minions, there is the swarm and nothing else. Giant Ant minions are ready to give up their power at a moment's notice for the benefit of the swarm, even their lives if necessary. The Giant Ants are all about power redistribution, they gain huge benefits from their minions rely on power counters rather than raw printed strength. All of their minions have a lower printed power than usual, and come with the side effect of gaining +1 power counters when played which they can manipulate with other cards. For example, Drone is the faction's 4 power minion - but it has 3 power and a +1 power counter instead. It also has the ability to remove a +1 power counter to prevent another minion from being destroyed, making it a very effective guardian ant-gel. The main strength is in steady growth and power accumulation, but they also have a huge power play in the form of 'We Will Rock You' - the main base scoring ability of the faction. Plays like this are facilitated by the Titan - Death on Six Legs - which provides a critical extra action play and even salvages power counters when that play is over. The main weakness of the Giant Ants is that they heavily favour building wide rather than tall, and suffer the disadvantages all of those other factions do. It takes time to build up strength, weaker minions are susceptible to being taken out by opponents, and when a base is scored they tend to lose a lot of board presence.
