my musical timeline

• prehistory. i spend most of these years listening to minecraft parodies or whatever was on the radio. barely sentient.
• 2010. i raid my dad's CD collection and come away with possibly the most important album in my listening career. Green Day's American Idiot. my mind is blown, a music taste is born.
• 2010 - 2012. i spend most of these years listening to Green Day and Gorillaz. apparently i only liked bands that began with G.
• 2013. secondary school starts. i keep listening to Green Day.
• 2014. i fall out of a tree and break several bones. i spend my recovery time watching TF2 clips, listening to Teenage Dirtbag and Stacy's Mom - by Wheatus and Fountains of Wayne.
• 2016. i discover My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy. the foundations for my emo phase are laid.
• 2017. i start listening to Blink-182. this will later be a very important band.
• 2018. my first spotify playlist is created, the now infamous 'trash', longest and strongest of the squadarooni playlists. founding fathers include Sum 41, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy and Blink-182. i unknowingly listen to my first metal song, Mastodon's Show Yourself. the first song by a female artist (Avril Lavigne's Sk8r Boi) is added, later follow by an obligatory Paramore obsession. my emo phase is the strongest.
• jan 2019. i start listening to System of a Down. metal is on the horizon.
• feb 2019. metallica enter the fray. i have strong memories of listening to Enter Sandman in the school computer room and thinking i was very cool. i was not. i am now.
• mar 2019. motorhead. the first band i ever got a t-shirt for.
• 26 may 2019. Run to the Hills and The Trooper by Iron Maiden are added to my playlist.
• 5 jun 2019. I Believe in a Thing Called Love by The Darkness is added to my playlist.
• aug - oct 2019. my obsession with Iron Maiden is sealed. an angel cries, a metalhead is born.
• nov 2019. i play Monster Prom and the ending song 15 Minutes by Mike Krol makes me very sad.
• jan 2020. The Darkness are the soundtrack to my uni application related breakdowns. i start listening to Dragonforce.
• mar 2020. lockdown begins. Iron Maiden are solidified as my favourite band and The Darkness aren't far behind. Smashing Pumpkins make a surprise entrance.
• jul 2020. i play Night in the Woods for the first time. i listen to Die Anywhere Else a lot. it makes me very sad.
• sep 2020. uni begins. i listen to Iron Maiden. i discover Ghost.
• feb 2021. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. BLOODY STREAM is added, soon to be followed by every other JoJo opening.
• sep 2022. Blackbraid's Barefoot Ghost Dance on Bloodsoaked Soil marks black metal's introduction.
• oct 2022. Avatar marks the beginning of the final year of uni. a significant increase in funeral doom metal also.
• dec 2022. Death.
• jan 2023. Gojira's Flying Whales is the first song i listen to in the new year. i see The Darkness live in Cardiff.
• mar 2023. Gnome's criminally good riffs work their way into my soul. depressive suicidal black metal gets a strong footing.
• may 2023. Meshuggah give me an audio lobotomy.
• aug 2023. I KILLED A MAN COS HE KILLED MY GOAT.
• dec 2023. i see The Darkness live in Brighton.
• 2024. not many developments apart from videogame soundtracks getting a very strong footing.
• jan 2025. lots of black metal.
• feb 2025. Drowning the Light release a billion albums at once. lots of death metal.
• mar 2025. violence has arrived. Gwar hit the playlist.
• apr 2025. becoming a lesbian with Chappell Roan. i see Ghost live in Birmingham.
• jun 2025. i see Iron Maiden live in Birmingham.
• jul 2025. i see Judas Priest and Alice Cooper live in London.
• nov 2025. Yakuza soundtrack.
• 2026. dungeon synth and who knows what's next.
